

Florentine mosaics or more correctly defined as “commesso fiorentino” first prominent in florence at the end of the sixteenth century.
The stones are put together like pieces of a puzzle,in which the assembly is arranged in perfect alignment to obtain a painting-like effect. This part of the work is so important that it has been given the name “commesso fiorentino”,meaning “placing together”, a term that today is still used in Florence when dealing with florentine mosaics.
